VIP's Union 2001-2018

This book is being presented on the occasion of Haegue Yang's nine-month presentation at the Kunsthaus Graz, which unfolded in two phases: First, the furniture could be viewed and was widely used throughout the buildin. During the second phase, the objects were collected and presented in one of the exhibition spaces, which altered their status from (usable) furniture to exhibits.

The first positive approach towards a hybrid community was called into question: Tipped over, scattered pieces of furniture, scents and changing lights created an atmosphere of dystopia and an image of a rather distorted community. The fact that the pieces of furniture could be placed on display for a relatively long period should not be taken for granted.
