In Déformation Proffessionnelle, Nairy Baghramian pushes the sculptor's task into new territory: "surveyingthe survey", as she describes this manifestation of her ever-evolving practice. the exhibition's name, derived from a French phrase often translated as "professional distortion" or "job conditioning", refers to how a person's chosen vocation is unavoidably prone to alter his or her worldview. In relation to this reading if the title, the artist uses the exhibition as an opportunity to dissect her own proffession and lay bare the sculptor's method. Furthermore, the word "deformation" can also be applied to form, pointing to basic actions such as shaping, modeling, or casting. Through her playful, yet critical, take on the artist's survey, she unpacks and interrogates the conceptual, physical, and social aspects of sculpture-making today.
