Autorreconstrucción: Social Tissue
Mexican artist Abraham Cruzvillegas reinvents himself with every exhibition. He loves to challenge himself- and the institution that is hosting him. The Kunsthaus is no exception. During "Autorreconstrucción: Social Tissue" he is transforming the major exhibition hall into a studio, in which new works will be created during the five short weeks of the show. Visitors are invited to watch and join in. A wide range of events, involving various local organizations and actors, accompany the project. This collective approach is typical of Cruzvillegas: an artist for whom retreating to the studio and creating art in isolation is not an option. The works arise out of exchange with other people and interaction with the specific exhibition venue, and are constructed entirely from used and found materials.
Abraham Cruzvillegas' method opens up a whole new way for his audience to access and experience art. Key issues of our time, from sustainability, solidarity and migration to the consequences of climate change, take center stage, invariably addressed with characteristic playfulness. The resulting works and installationss speak to a wide audience, both young and old.
